Friends and Activities

Like many people, your first impressions of Omega FamilyCare Apartments might be of a quiet, private neighbourhood built around style and grace. When you stay a little longer, you'll be impressed by the real sense of community that exists.

As a resident, you'll find that it's just like living in a friendly street where you very quickly get to know people and friendships form. The only difference is that you'll be in the company of like-minded people of similar ages with similar interests. You can mingle with the other residents or you can live as privately as you wish - just as you would in your own home.

And, as other residents have found, there is plenty of opportunity to stop for a chat in the garden or invite friends round for tea.

There are so many social groups and activities that it's difficult to keep track of them. As well as regular get togethers in the clubroom or the lounge for board games and musical entertainment, there are the regular exercise classes and social groups.

Many of the ladies at our properties like to get together for knitting groups and other creative pursuits. Other residents may prefer to choose an activity such as walking, carpet bowls or billiards.

No matter what, your level of participation is always your choice, as it would be in your own home, and your privacy is always respected.

Safety and Security

All our apartments are fitted with smoke detectors and fire sprinklers are installed throughout the complex to maximise your safety.

Smoking is confined to apartments and outside areas where it will not unintentionally affect anyone else, and for safety reasons is discouraged in bedrooms. Non-smokers are protected from the effects of passive smoking by the design features of our air management systems.

Staff are available at all times if you require assistance and all you need to do is pick up the telephone or push your HELP button. If you wish, a personal pendant will be provided for your use.

Our special telephone system is installed in every apartment and allows you to call other residents and reception without cost.

All exits are locked, but you can still open any door from the inside to leave the building. Nobody can get in without a key or being approved by a member of our team.

All our safety and security features are unobtrusive and will not interfere with the homely atmosphere, your quality lifestyle, or your privacy.

Nothing has been left to chance and the safety and security of every resident is one of our primary concerns.

Restaurant and Catering

Feel like an evening off from the cooking? Our chefs will prepare meals that are as good as any home cooked meal. Enjoy them with family or friends in the clubroom or have them delivered to your apartment. A seasonal, a-la-carte menu is published weekly. Our chefs plan meals according to our residents' preferences, including any special dietary needs, festival events and celebrations.

Our restaurants are also licensed. In addition to a full range of soft drinks, we carry a selection of wines and beers for your enjoyment. But, of course, you can bring your own if you prefer. All of our food service arrangements are very flexible and there to serve you.

For special occasions our boardroom can also be reserved for your exclusive use, and our chefs will be happy to cater for your gathering. Special decorations and floral arrangements can also be arranged.

Clubroom and Lounge

Our club and lounge rooms are your places to relax and enjoy yourself with friends. In the clubroom you can enjoy a game of Mahjong, or join one of our regular exercise classes.

Every week, regular events such as Happy Hour give you the opportunity to catch up for a drink and a chat in the clubroom. There is nothing like sitting back in a big comfortable lounge chair and discussing the events of the day with a group of friends.

Pets and You

We are often asked why our residents have pets and the answer is quite simple. Anything you would want to do in your own home, you should be able to do in a FamilyCare Apartment, because it is your own home.

It is a well known fact that pets reduce our stress level and are good for us. Obviously a pet's life in an apartment will be a little different from that in the usual suburban block, so a little extra consideration is necessary.

We also tend to encourage pet owners to consider ground floor apartments with access to gardens, however as this is not always possible, we do not restrict pet owners occupying apartments on any level - every circumstance will be favourably considered with the aim of accommodating residents' much loved pets.

In addition, keeping a pet comes with normal societal expectations of responsible ownership which includes keeping animals under control, cleaning up after them and respecting others who do not feel the same way about animals - as a community we encourage respect and tolerance.

Pets under effective control are permitted in public spaces but naturally are excluded from food preparation or other service areas prohibited by law.

Gardens

As we get older the gardens that we enjoyed so much in early retirement start to become more of a burden than a thing of joy. Of course there are still lovely days when the sun streams through the trees and nature is at it's best, but then there are the days when we are confronted with dead trees that need to be removed, pruning that is well overdue and lawns that are weed infested and with community water restrictions, gardens are harder and harder to maintain.

At an Omega FamilyCare Apartment you can have the best of both worlds, lovely gardens to enjoy and potter in if you wish, but also free of the worry. Our caretaker is responsible for everything but if you enjoy gardening, you can garden as much or as little as you want, it is entirely up to you!

With the assistance of a well known Adelaide identity, Michael Keelan, our gardens include drought tolerant, water-wise plantings and treatments, such as drippers, sub-surface irrigaton, and the use of garden mulch ensuring our gardens are always maintained to a high standard.

Many of our apartments at ground level open onto private gardens and courtyards, so you really do have the best of both worlds!
